The Bahais of IranRecently, Iran Press Watch was pleased to post an abstract of Prof. Tavakoli-Targhi’s important essay, “Anti-Baha’ism and Islamism in Iran, 1941-1955”.  Through the kindness of one of our readers, the site has received a scan of an abridged translation of this article as it appeared in The Baha’is of Iran: Socio-Historical Studies.  Since Iran Press Watch is dedicated to an academic study of the Baha’i community of Iran and documenting its trials and tribulations, we are pleased to share this article below.

We also take this occasion to recommend The Baha’is of Iran: Socio-Historical Studies, (New York, NY: Routledge, 2008) to our esteem readers as it contains a number of important articles and studies related to the development of the Baha’i community of Iran.

Mohamad Tavakoli-Targhi is Professor of History and Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto and the University of Toronto Mississauga.  Since 2002 he has served as the Editor of Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and Middle East, a Duke University Press journal, and has served on the editorial board of Iranian Studies, the Journal of the International Society for Iranian Studies.  More details about the academic background of Prof Tavakoli is available at:  http://mtavakoli.com/
