Arsalan Mirzaei, a sophomore studying materials engineering, has been expelled from university.
Based on a report by the Human Rights in Iran website quoting the Baha’i News, Arsalan Mirzaei, a Baha’i citizen and sophomore studying materials engineering, has been expelled from university.
The reason for this Baha’i citizen’s expulsion from the Shahid Chamran University in Ahvaz is his belief in the Baha’i Faith.
The first Universal Declaration of Human Rights, dated December 10, 1948, provides for equal opportunity to obtain an education for all human beings regardless of their race, color, belief, religion and gender.
During the past years, declaring a “defective file” for Baha’i university applicants has been equivalent to a denial of higher education for them. It seems that this trend is going to continue this year also.
The denial of higher education for Baha’is is based on the February 25, 1991 Resolution by the Supreme Council for the Cultural Revolution1, which deprives Baha’is from university education, as well as employment in government organizations.
Based on paragraph three of this Resolution, not only should Baha’is be prevented from registering in universities, but also they should be deprived of education if they are identified as Baha’is during the course of their education.
The denial of education for Baha’is was implemented systematically after the Islamic Revolution and the beginning of the Cultural Revolution.
