Isfahan: Three Baha’i Citizens Sent to Prison to Serve Sentences

Today, Monday, May 5, Arshia Rouhani, Hamid Monzavi, and Arash Nabavi, Baha’i citizens residing in Isfahan, were sent to prison to begin serving their sentences. These individuals had previously been sentenced by Branch 37 of the Isfahan Province Court of Appeals to two years of imprisonment, monetary fines, and additional penalties.

According to information received by HRANA, today, Monday, May 5, Arshia Rouhani, Hamid Manzavi, and Arash Nabavi appeared at the Sentence Enforcement Branch of the Isfahan Prosecutor’s Office and were subsequently detained and transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

In August of last year, these Baha’i citizens were each sentenced by Branch 37 of the Isfahan Court of Appeals to two years in prison, a fine of 24 million tomans, and a two-year ban on leaving the country and using social media.

Previously, Mr. Rouhani and Mr. Monzavi had been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court to five years in prison each, a fine of 50 million tomans, a two-year ban on social media activity and leaving the country, and confiscation of property. Mr. Nabavi had been sentenced by the same court to 10 years in prison, financial penalties, confiscation of property, and other supplementary punishments.

Arshia Rouhani and Hamid Monzavi were summoned and arrested by Branch 13 of the Isfahan Prosecutor’s Office on October 30, 2023. They were released a day later on bail of 300 million tomans.

In September of the same year, two business units owned by Arshia Rouhani and Hamid Monzavi in Isfahan were sealed by the Intelligence Ministry but were reopened a month later.

Arash Nabavi was arrested in August 2023 and released two months later on bail. Arash Nabavi, an unmarried man around 39 years old, lives with his parents in the “Kuy-e Emam” neighborhood in Isfahan.

Arshia Rouhani has previously faced judicial action due to his activities.
