The Court of Appeals in Khorasan Razavi province has confirmed the sentences of two members of the Baha’i religious minority to three years and eight months in prison apiece.
Farideh Moradi and Golnoush Nasiri each received three-year prison terms for their alleged membership in a social action group with the alleged intention to undermine the country’s security.
Both were also given an eight-month prison sentence for allegedly engaging in “activities against the Islamic Republic” and advocating for the Baha’i faith.
According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, three years imprisonment is applicable to each of the women.
The government has intensified its crackdown on members of the Baha’i faith, imprisoning dozens of them on spurious charges over the past year, denying them access to higher education and livelihoods, and confiscating or destroying their personal properties.
