Faraz Razavian, a Baha’i citizen, was sentenced by the Rasht Revolutionary Court to two years and one day of imprisonment, a monetary fine, and deprivation of social rights.

According to a ruling issued by Branch 3 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, which was communicated to this Baha’i citizen, he has been sentenced to two years and one day of imprisonment, a fine of 80,000,000 tomans, and five years and one day of deprivation of social rights.

A source close to the family of this Baha’i citizen confirmed the news to Hrana and stated: “Mr. Razavian has not been arrested or interrogated so far.” Some time ago, the court session for Mojgan Samimi, Mr. Razavian’s mother, was held in this branch, and unexpectedly, during the trial, Faraz Razavian was identified as a defendant. He, along with his mother, was convicted in this court for charges related to educational activities and matters related to the Baha’i faith, receiving both imprisonment and other penalties. Following the defense attorney’s request, Mr. Razavian’s case was heard separately in the same branch, and eventually, the same sentence was reissued against him.

Baha’i citizens in Iran are deprived of religious freedoms, a systematic deprivation that exists despite Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which state that everyone has the right to freedom of religion, the right to change their religion or belief, and the freedom to manifest their religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance, either alone or in community with others, in public or in private.
