Farideh Moradi and Golnoosh Nasiri, two Bahá’í citizens residing in Mashhad, presented themselves at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on the morning of Saturday, April 19, 2025, to begin serving their sentences. After turning themselves in, they were taken into custody and transferred to prison.

Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad, presided over by Judge Mansouri, had in October 2023 sentenced these two Bahá’í women to three years in prison on the charge of “membership in a group with the intent to disrupt national security,” and eight months for “propaganda against the regime.” This sentence was later overturned by the Supreme Court, and upon re-examination by the Court of Appeals, was reduced to eight months in prison.

The court identified their volunteer activities—teaching school subjects and literacy to children in impoverished villages around Mashhad—as grounds for the charges against them.

In a separate report, Branch 104 of the Criminal Court in Qaemshahr, presided over by Judge Reza Majazi, on Wednesday, April 16, sentenced a Bahá’í citizen named Maryam Zabihi Amrei to 10 months in prison. She was accused of conducting educational activities contrary to and disruptive of Islamic law by holding an exam for the Bahá’í Institute for Higher Education (BIHE) in her home.

It is worth noting that this Bahá’í citizen’s home had previously been raided and searched by security forces in February 2024.
