The electronic ankle monitor order for Houshidar Zarei, a Bahá’í citizen, was canceled, and he was sent to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz on Saturday, May 3.
On Saturday, May 3, Mr. Zarei’s electronic ankle monitor order was canceled, and he was transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz to serve the remainder of his sentence. His sentence of electronic monitoring with an ankle bracelet was enforced in October 2023 after his appearance at the Shiraz Revolutionary Court.
In the primary court, he was sentenced to one year in prison for the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and five years of imprisonment under electronic monitoring within a 1000-meter radius of his residence for “sectarian propaganda in favor of groups opposing the regime.” The issued verdict was upheld exactly as it was in August of this year by the Court of Appeals of Fars Province, presided over by judges Kamran Zare and Shahrokh Jaberi.
Mr. Zarei was previously arrested by security forces in Shiraz on and released from Adelabad Prison after posting bail of 1.2 billion Tomans.
Houshidar Zarei, born in 1979, is a judo coach and a Bahá’í citizen residing in Shiraz.
