Oppression of Baha’i Community Intensifies, Arrest of a Baha’i in Rasht

HRANA  News Agency: On October 23, 2017, Nazila Khanipoor (Heravi), a Baha’i from Rasht in Northern Iran, was arrested at her home, by the order of the Attorney General of the City of Rasht, and taken to an unknown location. No reason was given for her arrest, nor did the arrest order provide one.

About a month-and-a-half ago the residence of Ms. Khanipoor and her husband, Mr. Ramez Heravi, was one of a number of homes raided by Security Forces of the Ministry of Information, on order of the Attorney General.  These raids were conducted as a systematic and collective action, targeting Baha’i homes in Rasht, Rezvanshahr, Bre-sar, and Manjil cities, in the Province of Gilan in Northern Iran.   During these raids Security Agents confiscated personal belongings such as cell phones, tablets, laptops, memory cards, desktop, and Baha’i religious books, as well as paintings and pictures of Baha’i figures. Many Baha’is were arrested during these raids, but released after a time.  It is unknown if further action will be taken against these individuals. Ms. Khanipoor and Mr. Heravi we not at home at the time of the raids; Agents broke through the entrance door and forced their way in to conduct their search and seizure.

At this time no information has been made available regarding Ms. Khanipoor’s whereabouts since her arrest, and her fate is unknown.
