The Baha’i Cemetery of near the Village of Eivel on the Kiasar-Sari road has been placed for auction, in order to be converted to residential property.
This cemetery is more than 100 years old, and this auction has been announced in 2 national papers, Hamshahry and Iran.
In 1983 under severe pressure and persecution 20 Baha’i families living in Eivel were forced to leave, leaving all their property, personal belonging, and houses behind. This is a small farming community. Despite their attempt to seek a court order to return they have been denied and their homes have mostly been destroyed or burnt.
Now their 100 year old cemetery is being put up for auction.

This is an act that parallels ethnic cleansing: once a religious minority in village is deported and graveyard is destroyed, the persecutors hope that the evidence the Baha’i’s ever existed in a location will be forgotten.

This reminds me of the movie ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and how Tsarist Russians persecuted the Jews of Russia over 100 years ago. Unfortunately Iran is such a backward country whether we like it or not.

there are close to 6 million Baha’is spread all around the world. They enjoy freedom to practice their religion peacefully in most nations. They will still be around, and in numbers even greater when the backward nation of Iran collapses under the weight of it’s own fanaticism and hatred.
