More than five days after the arrest of seven Baha’is in Shiraz, some of the detainees’ families are still in the dark as to their loved ones’ health and physical wellbeing.

IranWire understands that one of those detained in Shiraz, Behrouz Farzandi, who is also a veteran of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War, is in grave danger. He was arrested during the evening of April 6, 2021, at his home in Shiraz. Agents also searched the residence for several hours.

Farzandi has been receiving medical care for more than 25 years due to a heart condition – one that under the pressure of imprisonment could lead to a heart attack at any moment. Shiraz is also on red alert for coronavirus and prisoners are at high risk of infection. Contracting covid would also endanger the health of this Baha’i prisoner.

Farzandi had experienced two years of captivity during the Iran-War War. His heart condition is a side effect of the mental and physical stresses enduring during that time. He also experiences neurological and auditory problems caused by an explosion during the war, and torture during his capacity, further exacerbating his health challenges in prison.
