The following news was reported by the online site of Human Rights Activists News Agency on Thursday, September 17, 2009, and appears below in translation:
Two Baha’is residents in the province of Mazandaran were tried by Revolutionary Court and received separate verdicts under which they were condemned to imprisonment and cash fines.
According to the report of the Baha’i Committee of Human Rights Activists of Iran, the Revolutionary Court of Babol convicted Moshfeq Samandari [see IPW], a 20-year old Baha’i of the same town, to six months incarceration and a fine of 500,000 tuman [equivalent of US$500]. He was arrested earlier this year on the charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “teaching the Baha’i Faith” and after two and a half months imprisonment was released temporarily on June 28, 2009.
At the same time, another Baha’i by the name of Saman Sabeti, a resident of Qa’emshahr, who was arrested last winter, was convicted to six months imprisonment.
