In a statement, Markus Löning – the Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office in Germany – described the increase in prison sentences for the seven former Baha’i leaders as “scandalous.” “The fact that this decision is made in secret shows once more that Iran is not prepared to be transparent and respect fundamental constitutional principles,” said Mr. Löning.
