The following is a translation of the request of a group of Iranian human rights activist organizations on the occasion of December the 10th, International Human Rights Day, including a short report on the human rights situation in Iran. This translation was shared with Iran Press Watch through the kind offices of Iranian human rights activist groups in Europe and North America.

Iranian Governmental authorities have always claimed that human rights are respected in Iran and they have organized their propaganda based on this claim. In spite of this pretension and according to various reports from human rights organizations such as our reports, as one of these organizations which is monitoring human rights in Iran consistently, human rights are violated in a manner which is widespread, planned and systematic.
According to a number of cases in the 2008 report (see previous post on IPW), which have been gathered mainly from authorised sources inside Iran, human rights were violated more severely than last year in different ways, such as:
Increased number of death penalties, execution sentences for people under 18, increased number of students, political, social and cultural activists arrested and tried, oppressing women in different areas, fired and unemployed workers and violating their primary rights, oppressing minority religious and ethical groups etc.
We hereby ask humbly that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Mrs Navanethem Pillay, and Human Rights Defenders’ International Committees, to make a serious attempt to send an international non-governmental group to investigate the human rights situation in Iran, so subsequently ways of judging the human rights situation in Iran would become more even-handed, and making decisions about how to react appropriately would be possible.
We (the undersigned) ask all human right defenders to react against the human rights violation in Iran and todo what they can to ameliorate the human rights situation in Iran.
